UPDATED: Make N Take Temporarily Resumed
Thanks to the generosity of Dick Christ, he will order through his hobby shop (Hobby Depot in Tempe, AZ) and we are able to resume the program at least temporarily. I also note many great ideas being generated on the IPMS Facebook page and thank everyone for their suggestions that we will look into.
Due to a loss of a reasonably priced supply of models, as of today, 8/19/15, the IPMS/USA Make and Take program is temporarily suspended. If an order has been made already it should be filled but we are no longer able to fill orders until we can arrange another supplier besides Revell.
Revell/Hobbico made a corporate decision to change the Make and Take model marketing plan and will no longer directly ship models to IPMS clubs or to anywhere besides hobby shops. This was preceded by a 66% price ($3.00 per model to $5.20 per model) which we were trying to deal with but now their wholesaler handling the Make and Take program refuses to sell models to IPMS since we are not a hobby shop. Great Planes suggested our Community Activities Coordinator, Jim Brooks, contact the hobby shop closest to him to order models. Jim contacted his local shop and they can order cases of models except they want to charge a 100% markup on the price from Great Planes, their supplier, plus shipping. That amounts to close to $13 per model--basically retail price.
This situation is economically unacceptable for continuing the program. Jim is working on finding alternative sources like Zvesda or Round 2 (AMT) but at the moment we have not lined up a replacement for the supply from Revell.
CEO of Hobbico is Wayne Hemming. Email address is email@example.com but if you really want to get attention, send a snail mail letter to Mr Hemming at the corporate physical address: 2904 Research Rd, Champaign, IL 61822. We will continue seeking more direct contact information for anyother Hobbico or Revell decision makers who contributed to this corporate policy change.
